The 400,000 gallon elevated steel tank in Mauston is very visible from I-90 and has become a symbol of the community. The site was selected in advance when the industrial/commercial area along the highway was developed. The project included a major trunk main connecting the new tower to the downtown area via a new river crossing. Funding was provided by the State of Wisconsin as part of a package for the development of the Sand Ridge Treatment Center. Davy Engineering Co. provided the preliminary studies, design and construction phase services. Davy also assisted in the negotiation of the funding agreement and coordinated acquisition of all easements and permits. An agreement was also negotiated with a cell phone company to add antennae to the tank. This provides a significant source of revenue to the water utility.
